    What is Vision Therapy?

In-office optometric visual rehabilitation is conducted by a Vision Therapist under the supervision of a Developmental/Neuro-Optometrist. At BCI, we are the only facility in Alberta with both a board-certified Neuro-Optometrist (FCOVD) and Certified Optometric Vision Therapist (COVT) team offering post-concussion management. Vision Therapy can be explained as a set of tailored exercises prescribed to meet the unique needs of each patient. This type of rehabilitation utilizes therapeutic lenses and prisms as well as specialized instruments to strengthen a broad range of visual skills. The goal of Vision Therapy is to retrain the learned aspects of vision by means of physical muscle strengthening and neuroplasticity. A Vision Therapy treatment plan aims to improve visual comfort and efficiency, re-wire the processing and interpretation of visual information and provide a foundation in which fundamental visual skills and abilities can be showcased with ease in daily life, sport and beyond. At BCI, we also specialize in sports vision enhancement for community, elite and high-performance athletes utilizing movement intensive dual-tasking visual tools such as FitLights, Senaptic Strobe Glasses, Microsoft HoloLens Virtual Reality Technology that overlays digital content as holograms onto the real-world enabling users to interact with both real and virtual objects simultaneously, and Dynavision D2 gaze stabilization technology within our open rehab space.
